The Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs is appointed by the Governor and is a
member of his cabinet. Selected with special reference to both administrative abilities
and familiarity with cultural affairs, the Director serves as the chief administrator of
the Department by setting policies and procedures, superintending the buildings of the
Department and providing direction on new initiatives. He also appoints the four division
administrators and advises the Governor on the appointment of boards, councils and
commissions which comprise the Department.
The Office of the Director consists of
administrative staff and a public information office. The Director represents the
Department at public functions, prepares the consolidated budget, serves as liaison to the
State Legislature, and works as an advocate for cultural and information-related
activities throughout the state..
